Dept. of Materials & Metallurgical Engineering
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Enugu State University of Science and Technology was established in September 1981 under the name: Department of Materials Science and Engineering. It however assumed its present name in 1982 as an answer to the numerous questions from the public and prospective students who were interested in Metallurgical engineering and who were obviously aware of the global trends in this respect.
Ever since graduating the first batch of students in 1985, the department has continued top produce fresh batches of Bachelor of Engineering Degree holders annually. Due to the number of seasoned and highly qualified persons on the Academic Board of the Department, a post-graduate programme was started way back in 1983 with a single Doctoral Degree candidate.
In 1986, more students enrolled for Post-graduate programmes culminating in the successful graduation of an MSc Degree holder in 1988, while a PhD research thesis was successfully defended in 1990 making the Department to be the first in the Faculty of Engineering to have produced a Ph.D graduate.
Degree Programmes
The Department aims at providing a sound balanced theoretical and practical training in Metallurgical and Materials Science and Engineering, so that our students may acquire the tactics of using their heads and hands in good combination to solve key scientific and technical problems.
